ADHD & SEXUALITY

ADHD is a mental health condition involving challenges with “executive function”, particularly in the domains of memory; emotional regulation; motivation; response inhibition and managing attention.

The number of adults being diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is on the rise and exceeds the number of children diagnosed with ADHD. It is therefore essential  that sexologists have the knowledge and skills to recognise and respond effectively to the needs of clients who have ADHD or who may have undiagnosed ADHD. We also know that the strategies and interventions that work well for neurotypical clients may not be effective for clients who have ADHD.

In addition, ADHD is often accompanied by other co-morbid conditions like depression and anxiety.  This means that “quality of life” for those living with ADHD is likely to be negatively affected especially if untreated

In this presentation on ADHD and Sexuality Karen shares her extensive knowledge and experience and will be addressing the following:

1. Understanding Adult ADHD and how it may present in your practice.

2. What you need to know about ADHD medication.

3. The many ways in which ADHD impacts sexuality & relationships.

4. Helpful strategies and approaches when working with ADHD clients.
